Growing up in the Midwest, Ms. Bouthilet was called to nursing from a young age. The abductions of Jacob Wetterling and Dru Sjodin made her aware of interpersonal violence and shaped her desire to help prevent the aftermath of violent interpersonal encounters. In Forensic Nursing, Courtney found a way to combine her experience and passion.

With a deep understanding of victimization, Ms. Bouthilet has been able to share her knowledge through organizational and program development, community outreach, and education for health care and victim services professionals. Her experience has resulted in collaboration and mentorship for research and grant projects. Courtney has seen the need for forensic nursing services firsthand, as well as the challenges that face the healthcare system. As a result, Ms. Bouthilet has fostered working relationships with various agencies and institutions to create partnerships and opportunities for patients to access these fundamental services.
